Introduction

Everyone has a right to expect individualised, holistic sexual and reproductive healthcare. Patients can discuss their SRH needs with our GPs and advised where to obtain the service that is most suitable for them.

Patients Must Be Able to Access Timely Appointments for SRH Care:

Any patient requesting the emergency contraceptive pill (ECP) by telephone or in person should be offered a same-day emergency appointment with a GP. If there is no appointment available then a message should be relayed to the patient’s GP (or Duty GP) so that action can be taken.

An appointment for a consultation with a GP for advice about termination of pregnancy should be made available within a few days or self referral to The British Pregnancy Advisory Services (BPAS) on 0345 730 4030.

Routine requests for contraceptive appointments should consider expiry dates of devices and whether the patient has adequate supplies of pills to ensure continuity of contraception. Emergency requests for contraception prescriptions should be accepted.

Repeat prescriptions for the pill are provided every 3 months, and a patient should attend once a year for a Blood Pressure check.

Even though this practice does not provide all methods of contraception, we will provide appropriate information so that patients can make an informed choice and guidance as to where to access these methods eg.:
